Your Senators ARE listening to you

No really, they are.

Don’t believe crackpots like Glenn Beck and his minions who say that our government doesn’t listen to our public. Here in California I have a wonderful Senator who took the time to listen to me and send me an e-mail about my concerns.

Remember this?:

Frankly, I was embarrassed. I was embarrassed that my Senator would bring race into a discussion of energy policy.

And I told her so. Here was my email to her:

Dear Senator Boxer,

I have just viewed your exchange with Harry Alford. Senator Boxer (*and please note that I did not call you “Maam” “Ms.” “Mrs.”, “Barbara”, “Babs” or “you stupid Honky”) can you explain what race has to do with energy policy? Do you understand why Harry Alford may have felt so insulted when you presented him with a letter from the NAACP instead of arguing for your program on its merits?

Are you prepared to apologize on behalf of yourself and the State of California?

And you know what? Today I got a response from Senator Boxer!:

Dear Mr. Nigel**:

Thank you for writing to me in support of clean energy legislation to fight global warming. I appreciate hearing from you, and I agree with you.

I am pleased that on June 26, 2009, the House of Representatives passed H.R.2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. I strongly support the goals of this landmark legislation.

H.R.2454 would significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This bill would promote the use of renewable energy, provide incentives to drive the development of clean energy technologies, put Americans back to work, and help to build the foundation for America’s future economic growth.

As Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, I am working with my colleagues on EPW and other Senate Committees to develop the Senate clean energy legislation. Be assured that I share your interest in enacting legislation that creates millions of clean energy jobs, reduces our dependence on foreign oil, and protects our children and grandchildren from the ravages of unchecked global warming.

Again, thank you for writing to me. Please feel free to contact me in the future about this or any other issue of concern to you.

Barbara Boxer
United States Senator

See! Take that and stuff it, Glenn Beck!

*OK, maybe I didn’t actually send that parenthetical statement in my original email to her

**I used my real name on my emails to her, not my blog name. Yes, it’s true. “Nigel” is not my real name.

  1. Crybaby Babs is like Nancy Pelosi’s “before” picture.

Next thing you’re going to tell us that you’re not a militant, elderly black lesbian triple-amputee Korean war veteran.

And after you told us that you marched with Dr. King….

I hereby revoke my donation to the United Negro College Fund. A mind truly is a terrible thing.

  2. Heh,,, that’s not the Nigel I know.

  3. Nigel, I did the same (Santee here) and got the same f*cked up form response. I’d rather we had a box of hair for our Senator. At least it would be a wash in intelligence, and less likely to damage us with Teh Stoopidâ„¢
